Maintaining non-immigrant status after applying i-485

Last week I applied i-485 with already approved family-based i-130 petition. The i-130 was submitted long back in Dec 1999 and approved in 2004 with 1st preference unmarried child of citizen.

I have H1B status right now since 2001. After submitting i-485, can I abandon h1 status, or I have to maintain that?
