leaving the us before receiving plastic gc

Can I leave the us before receiving the plastic gc card and then to reenter at later date without the card? Just using my passport ?
 
Yes you can. The stamp that will be put on your passport at the POE can be used in place of the plastic GC itself and it's usually valid for one year.
