Laid off - 6 yrs used up of H1-B - where do I go from here?

I was let go from my company today. I have been on H1-B status since Sept 2000 in the US. My green card application filed thru the employer that just laid me off (under EB3 category) was in 140 approved status & 485 pending to be filed based on a priority date of Oct 10 th 2004. I also received an H1-B extension approval filed by the same employer valid thru Feb 2014. Based on this situation I have the following questions:

1. If I filed for H1-B transfer to another employer, how long of a grace period do I have? And after this grace period if I have not successfully transferred the H1-B would I need to exit the country?
2. Also, how likely is it that my transfer of H1-B petition can be denied by the INS based on the status of my green card application & that I have been in the US now for 10+ years without an approved 485?
3. Finally, because of this lay off, is my green card application now considered completely null & void & do I need to start the process from scratch again?

Any advise would be really appreciated.
