J1 to H-1B: Success Story

Last week I received my H-1B approval after almost a year of J1 waiver process.

Thanks to all forumites for helping me at several stages. Special thanks to dheeraj212, akalingan, Chinna4, sri2377.


01/25/07: Applied DS3035 to DOS

February 07: Sent forms to Indian Embassy in Washington DC for attestation

March 07: Sent forms for NORI issuance to MHRD, New Delhi, India and Passport Office, Bareilly, India

April 07: Sent forms for NORI issuance to state home department in Jharkhand.

May 07: Received notice from MHRD that forms are not notorized.

May 07 last week: Sent notorized forms again to the MHRD.

June 07: Received NORI from Passport Office.

August 07: Received NORI from MHRD.

November 07: Received NORI from State Home Department.

December 07: Sent NORI's to the Indian Embassy, Washington DC.

01/04/08: Embassy issued letter to the DOS and sent copy to me.

01/11/08: DOS gives favourable recomendation. Checked online.

01/20/08: Received recommendation letter from DOS.

March 1st week 07: Called USCIS regarding final waiver notice and was stunned to know that they don't have any information.

March 2nd week again called and visited local office but no body had any information.

03/20/08: Suddenly received USCIS waiver approval letter in mail. I'm in Nebraska Service Center Jurisdiction, but waiver came from Vermont Service Center. Amazing!! but who cares....

03/28/08: Applied for H-1B with premium processing. I'm research scientist with Ph.D so no problem about visa cap.

04/11/08: Received H-1B approval.

Congratulations! I'm so glad to hear of successful cases. Did you receive funding from the U.S. gov't or your home gov't? Was it a Fulbright? I'm just trying to determine my eligibility.

How did you get the DOS letter just one week after your letter reached them?
Is there a way to contact them and track the process as the online update is very slow.

I am also from Jharkhand I will contact you soon. My papers are still in State Home Department. How is you follow up with them? they seems very slow.
 
On what number did you call USCIS. Did you get any receipt number from them.

Please let me the number on which you called USCIS.
