J-1 to O-1

Hi!
I am on J-1 clinical visa with 2 yr HHR which expired on august 14th,2013, I applied for O-1 visa at vermont center and got a RFE yesterday, can I stay in the country while I am preparing for the RFE or do I have to leave before the 30day grace period expires on my J-1?

You can speak to Immigration office while you go to submit your RFE. It might take few weeks for that processing.
