02/04/2009: Alarming Latest PERM Application Denial Statistics

* AILA has reported that in the first quarter of FY 2009 (October 1, 2008 thru December 31, 2008), Atlanta National Processing Center processing record was as follows:
o Total Completed During the Period: 4,571
o Total Approved During the Period: 3,074
o Total Denied During the Period: 1,328
o Total Withdrawn During the Period: 169.
* The foregoing statistics represent that denial rate exceeded 30%. If we take out withdrawal cases, the denial rate will be somewhat higher. By any count, this rate is higher than what we have witnessed in the permanent labor certification processing history. Besides, the agency was processing the cases of June 2008 priority date. During the period, they received 18,863 new applications. This number may be considered not too high considering the fact that the system anticipated to receive over 100,000 cases a year. Hmmm.....................................
