If cost of moving your 'stuff' is more than buying new 'stuff' than the answer is obvious, if you are worried about Canada customs and taxes your worry is real unless you are landing or gave a list of your 'stuff' while you were landing.

If you are changing jobs than ask your company to pay for shipment of your "stuff".

Good luck!

Honestly, we've looked at prices of movers, and then estimated how much stuff we have here in our simple 1-bedroom apt here in Silicon Valley. It turns out that hiring movers is more expensive and will cause a lot of headaches, rather than just selling our furniture on craigslist.com and sending our clothes in regular parcel mail. We'd drive in our own car with just the necessary clothing and vital "stuff", the rest can be sent via mail.

this is what we've concluded. others' experience may be different.
