Importing a car from Canada

I am a Canadian currently under an adjustment of status, as we wait for my green card, my American wife is sponsoring me and I live and work in the US. I recently got my advanced parole so I am going to Canada for a visit. I have a car up there, 2001 Toyota that I want to bring to the states. It’s been sitting for awhile so it’s not registered or insured at the moment. My question is, do I register it in Canada with enough insurance to cover me for the trip or do I get a temporary plate and insurance in the US and travel that way. What else do I need to do to import the vechcle when I cross the border? All advice is appreciated, ty.

If it were me, for a 2001 Toyota, I’d seriously weigh the total cost and hassle against just leaving it in Canada or selling it. Financially, it’s often not worth the effort unless there’s a strong personal reason.
