i9 Form for TN Management Consultant?

Hi Everyone,

My TN Status for Management Consultant was approved!

I read in Joseph C. Grasmick's TN Handbook for Canadians that it's imperative to have the company's payroll fill out the i9 form and that there were serious consequences if this was not done. The thing is I was hired by my client as an Independent Contractor and therefore am not on their payroll. Information about the i9 form clearly states independent contractors do not need to fill this form out. Both the HR Team and Payroll have never worked with a TN Professional so they are not familiar, but they said they only do i9 forms for employees on their payroll.

I filled out the W9 form. Should that be enough?

That is correct. They do not need I-9 for non-employees. YOU Need the TN to work, but they don't need it to pay you.
