I-485 pending, if laid off, what\'s my status. I have EAD.

PD March 1998, ND, RD: October 1999.
FP March 1st 2001.I am well past that 180 days.
Let\'s assume that law is not in effect. What is my
legal status if I get laid off? Can I work for somebody
with the EAD? Or do I have to find other means to reamin
leagal in the country? I will expect my employer not to
withdraw my GC application. I expect my approval within
60 days. My PD is not current yet. Please don\'t cite 180 days rule
I am well aware of that and I am also waiting for the regulations by INS.
I don\'t want to guess about it.

You sure can work on your EAD with in validity period. Employers cannot revoke GC application in any way becuase I485 is a work-in-relationship betwqeen you (beneficiary) and INS. I\'d go ahead and change jobs if you know beforehand that you will be laid off and make sure you have the layoff letter as it will help you prove to INS that you have not left voluntarily. Otherwise, if you are not in any hurry, I\'d urge caution and basically wait until INS says something about 180day rule for pre-Oct17 I485 filers.
