H4 processing

Hello,

I am visiting India in Aug and chances are, I might get married. Question is, how long does it take to get an H4, say at the chennai centre?Since my vacation is only for 15 days, do I need to be there when my spouse goes to the consulate. Please advise.

Any best practices/information would really help.

In case of Calcutta Consulate office, after your interview you get the passport within a week (they mail it through Blue Dart).... 15 days...hmm...seems too tight.
In your case..
1. Get court registered and get the marriage certificate
2. Include your name in your wife's Passport; you may/ or may not change her name after marriage too.
3. Get married and take pictures as required during marriage.
4. You should make a drop box appointment or interview appointment on a date right after your marriage. So you might schedule it before even get married. And attend accordingly.
5. Wait for another 7 days to get the passport.
