H1B to TN

Greetings all,

I am currently working in the US under TN visa. My company applied for me in the H1B cap but unfortunately I was not selected this year. Can I still apply for different company and get a new TN visa? I am scared that applying for H1B visa initially will show that I am looking for permanent residency here and hence my new TN visa for the new company will be denied. Kindly advise! Thanks!
 
Applying for H1-B, which is a still a non-immigrant status, does nothing to harm current or future TNs. It does not "show" anything with regards to immigration intent.
