Hi All,

My H1 is expiring in Nov 2011 (6 yrs completed). My I140 is approved. When can i start planning for my h1 extension.

Is USCIS giving the extension for 3 yrs(used to give earlier) or is it based on Client letters etc.

Whats the trend going on for H1 Approvals... Please let me know if any other sites to track...

Thanks,
Kotha

I recently got a three year extension based on the approved I-140. I applied with a premium processing. After the DOL approval was done, it took to ten days. I work for a University not consulting so don't know how it will be for you. But I think you don't have to wait till Nov 2011. You can apply the extension now. I have heard that sometime when applying for three year, USCIS usually approves one. So that might depend. Not sure if we can find a trend there. But if you can show support that the project will go on for three years and there is enough funding for it, then it should be ok.

Good luck!

You can apply for extension 6 months before it expires.
The extension will be for the time mentioned in the client letter for a maximum of 3 years.
