Guarantor for renting apartments

Hi,
I'll be moving to Toronto in mid July. I have called some apartments to find out their availability and other equirements. I was told that if I do not have a job I need a "guarantor". This is a person
a) willing to take liability for me
b) should be able to support 2 household incomes

I don't know anyone in Canada.

Please advise me if there is any other way to rent an apartment without having a guarantor.

Think abt renting apt/basement with desi family's house. If you are alone, you can start as paying guest. Check out www.canadiandesi.com - there are # of desi families who rent apt and basements. Many times, there may not be any long term leasing and you pay month-2-month.
