GC derivative status

I was selected for an interview for DV-2003. Before that, my boyfriend and I had plans of getting married in a year or so. As we don't want to do it earlier, I need to make sure a number of issues:
- what rights would he get if get married before the GC interview (work permit, education benefits, etc.)?
- what rights would he get if we marry following the interview?
- what does derivative status mean and what rights does it grant?

If you get merried before the interview you should notify KKC about this.
I'm not sure that is possible after you recieve paket 2 - invitation for the interview.
