15 months. Probably a little more than 15 months too.
From what I gathered from other posters, USCIS can collect finger prints from other sources too - such as Port of entry, etc. In such a case, if you visited home and traveled back to US, then your finger prints might be available.
This might have worked in my case - I gave my finger prints in Oct '07. And my GC was approved in Mar '09 (after 15 months of FPs).
Per USCIS manual, finger print criminal check should not be more than 15 month old at the time of Green Card approval.
I heard (though I am not sure) that earlier, USCIS has no system to store alien finger prints hence ask alien to submit FP approximately every 15 months. Now, after mid 2007, they have facility to virtually store finger prints and they check it every 15 months or when required. Again, I am not 100% sure.
