EAD and its effect on H1 continuation

I am completing 6 years early next year. EAD was issued to me last year and renewed for another year, recently. Applied I485 in May 99 but still waiting for green card process. Can I continue to stay on EAD while my H1 expires or I should plan to return. What happens to my Green Card process after I leave?
