Do you need to show to INS your original I-94?

Please share with your experience.

Does anybody who filed for I-485 before rememeber you had to surrender I-94 in some period of application? or you need to show to INS during interview?

I lost my I-94, and have a certified photocopy from my school\'s internatioanl office, I don\'t know whether it can be a substitute for the original one.

My experience

INS took the I-94 at the time of stamping my passport and thats what I heard from all my friends
