Pat Cotton, a reputed local political consultant recently offered her views on the current crop of Dallas mayor candidates. Cotton said that anyone who is a current member of the council would have a difficult time getting elected, as she believes that voters will be looking for a change when they go to the polls in May 2007. So obviously, she considers only dim chances of Councilman Oakley’s victory in the elections, though she does praise him for his qualities of commitment to his work.

Cotton is of the opinion that the voters of Dallas are looking for a mayor who is pleasant to deal with and supportive of things that are good for the city. This mayor will also make businesses feel it is ok to come to Dallas to expand their operations. Cotton hinted her disapproval about the infighting and hostility between council members when she added that Dallas residents who follow the City Council meetings are ready for the officials to settle down. However, Mayor Laura Miller said in a telephone interview that she does not see the disagreements that arise in council meetings as a huge issue. That will always be the case, no matter who is mayor, she said.

As the Dallas mayor candidates actively promote their campaigns and agendas, the voters of Dallas eagerly await the elections and its tension-filled outcome.
