Current visa stamp needed to extend EAD for J-2?

Hi,

My spouse is on a J-2 visa and has an Employment Authorization Document (EAD), valid until September. My employer recently issued me new DS-2019 forms, valid until up September 2014. We would like to renew her EAD already but are not planning to get new visa stamps before the summer.

(1) Do we need current visa stamps in order to renew her EAD?

(2) If not, do I actually need to send our visa stamps along with the EAD application (I-765 form)? Some of the instructions on the internet mention it, others don't.

(3) Is it actually possible to renew 6-7 months before the old EAD expires?

(4) I did not check our I-94 records yet, but they will indicate only a stay for up to a year (since the new DS2019 was not in place then), is this a problem in renewing the EAD?

Thanks a lot!
