Does anybody know about the fact sheet issued by USINS on Dec. 26, 2006 regarding people with GC through asylum travelling back to COP? I got my GC through asylum in August 2006. I travelled back to COP once because my mom was very ill at that time. I went back on Dec. 20, 2006 and stayed there for three weeks. Am I going to run into major problems during citizenship interview due to this trip? Does it make a difference if I travelled back before USINS issued the fact sheet?

There has always been questions about going back to COP. Be always prepared to explain at POE or at the interview why you feared for your life on one day and that the day after, you were able to go visit your ill mom. Asylee ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO GO BACK HOME.

Don't worry you will be fine as long as you had valid reason for the trip. Make sure you well prepare your self before you go to interview. There are some members on this forum who went to COP and they got Citizenship. I wish you good luck.

You might or might not be questioned, so make sure you take some proof that your visit was necessary, such as as hospital receipts or something. But, you will probably be ok as long as you explain yourself (if asked about the trip).

I have yet to see anyone's asylum-based greencard was revoked by them and they won the appeal. In various cases, the Court simply reject the idea that the visit to country of persecution without incidence is the evidence of changed circumstance.

I admire individual immigration officer's enthusiasm to their job, but experience proves that this is just the exercise of futility.

Remember: America is a lawful society.

So just relax.

Since i was not aware of the problems I might run into in the future when I visited COP back in Dec. 2006, I did not bring any hospital record with me. Is this going to be a problem during the citizenship interview? Is it enough for me to explain the situations verbally? Or Can I ask the doctor who treated my mom then to write a letter and have his letter norarized?

On of my trip coming to usa, at POE, officer was ready to revoke my green card and terminate asylum if I had visited my country. Be caution on what you advised people. Because it went well for X doesnt mean it will go well for Y.

Does the immigration officer at POE have the right to revoke your GC on the spot?

Don't worry. Your reason seem to be valid. Just relax, the officer may not even ask you.

Thank you for the encouragement. Do you know anybody who obtain his/her citizenship with similar experiences as mine? What if I am not able to obtain the hospital record or receipts from 5 years ago, is it enough for me to explain the situations to the interview officer verbally?

WHY SOME PEOPLE LOVE TO SCARE OTHERS..LOL..ok don;t worry:) just try in some way to obtain the records for you never know..but you don't need to worry you did not abuse..you just went for an emergency situation...i work with refugess everyday and my only advice is..DON;T ABUSE//..if you need to go for a family emergency..just try to stay the less possible and come back...you just went once..try to obtain the records and god will be with you in your interview..everything is gonna be alright...
if someone who obtain the green card thanks of asylum is traveling frecuent to his or her country..ok.. YOU CAN SAY that that person is a fraud..BUT if you go just cause a horrible emergency..come on..that';s humanitary///
don;t worry everything is gonna be alright but better keep the record why did you go to your country...auntenticate in a notary..maybe some family member in your cop can help you and then make an official translation..and that;s it.//.maybe they will ask you..maybe not
good luck

Yes, documentation is always good to have, so a notarised letter from the doctor would help. Again, you don't know if they will question you or not. My mother was questioned and asked to return for a second interview with documentation, and now we're waiting for the decision.
