Certified Birth Certificate???

Hi all,

I need to apply for N-600 for my daughter and one of the required documents is a 'Certified birth certificate or record issued by a civil authority in the country of birth'.

Is certified different from notarization? If so, how do I get the birth certificate certified?

If it is signed and stamped by a government official and carries the official seal, it is referred to as certified.

Does it have to be a federal official or any state, city or county official would do?

I think it depends, like in India, local city issues the birth certificates.

I already have the original birth certificate issued in India. When USCIS says 'Certified', does it mean just the photocopy of the original or do we need someone to certify the photocopy?

It means you have to send the original Indian birth certificate. The 'certification' has already been done by whomsoever signed and stamped the birth certificate.
But make sure it is filled in English.Otherwise you will have to get it officially translated.
