I am filling my initial I-130/I-485 package - luckily all we have to translate so far is my wife's birth certificate.
The instructions say all we need is a translator to agree to this statement:
I <name>, certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and Portuguese languagues, and that the attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached and entitled <TITLE>.
Is there a need to hire someone that is an 'official' translator if I have a 3rd party acquaintance that can swear this is true?
Thanks!!!
Tom
