Business Visa to US from Canada

Please inform if anyone knows the best route to start a manufacturing and marketing facility in the US. The long term goal is to immigrate to the US. I live in Canada and the project capital requirement is about $ 100,000.

You can take the E-2 route to get things started in the US. However, there are certain limitations in applying for permanent residency. One way to overcome this limitation is to grow the company to a size of $500k or more and then take the EB-05 route.

Alternatively, you can set up base temporarily to start the company and when sufficient revenues show on your balance sheet apply for an H1b.

Yet another alternative is when the company in the US is a subsidiary of the company in Canada. In that case you can apply for L1a, but you need to have worked for the company in Canada for at least six months (or even better 1 year). The L1a (with at least one year previous work experience) allows you to obtain a relatively quick permanent residency since you can skip the Labor Certification, which can take several years to accomplish.

I suggest you talk to an attorney to discuss the different options.
