Approval Lost in the Mail??

My I-797 approval for H1-B visa was sent out from the INS sometime ago now, but my attorney has not received the approval yet. My attorney believes that the approval got lost in the mail. I was suggested to file I-824 with the INS to request a duplicate approval notice. However, I was also warned that it usually takes a year to get the duplicate.

I am scheduled for an appointment at the US Embassy for May 11, 2006 to get my H1-B stamp. I don't know if any of you have ever had incidents like this but I am very concerned and upset about this situation and I desperately need your advice.

Could you please tell me what I can do, if I don't receive the original copy of my I-797 approval by then? If the US Embassy is notified by the INS about the approval of my case, a "I-797C" Courtesy Copy for H1, instead?

I would be really appreciative your assistance, in advance
