Hi All,

I am holding a green card and a spouse of US Citizen. My two kids are US citizen too. Currently I am following my husband who has been assigned a long project outside US. My husband is working for US company.
I got my re-entry permit effective on September 2014 and valid for two years. As my husband project is still continue, we plan to apply for another re-entry permit. We plan to be in US this July 2016 and file form I-131. Below is my question:
1. Do I need to surrender my current re-entry permit when I file the new I-131 ?
2. I just realized that my green card is going to expire on April 2017. Can I still apply for the re-entry permit with this condition ?

Thanks and best regards,
Lcc

1. depends on when it will expire. They won't let you have more than one valid permit, but if it will expire a month or two after you apply for the new one, you can just write "set to expire" in the application. I don't know what the processing timeline is at the moment, but if it's still about 6 months, you'll be fine.

2. No problem, because only the card expires, and NOT your LPR status.
