i have come to usa on my student visa , the immigration officer at port of entry has samped f-1,d/s can any one let me know what does this mean

hi! I am in US now on F1 -Visa to attend the Fall 2004 semester. What is the process for me to defer to Spring 2005 . while I am inside USA. I am forced to do this, as my final paper in my previous canadian school is still in limbo. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance -limbo
