Valid I-94 past Visa expiration date

Hi, My mother came to USA again recently using her 10 yr. visitor's visa. Though her visa stamp on the passport was expiring on Apr 20th 2011, the POE officer stamped her I-94 valid until May 26th 2011. So, which one takes precendence when considering the safe date for leaving USA without...

I-130 for mother - Advice please

She got the 10 yr. visitors visa in 2001 and visited US three times already and left before I-94 expired all the time. So there was no need for her to visit US consulate again after I became a citizen. I read info few minutes back that I-130 & I-485 can be filed together. I am assuming that...

    Preserve / store Naturalization Certificate

Keep the original in a binder with sleeves, in a bank locker. Also, make a clear color copy and keep it at home in a file cabin. At the same time, make a clear, color scan to PDF file and put it in a palm size external drive that you can carry with you on trips. That's what I did.

Do you travel overseas with both passport and naturalization certificate or only passport?

This is what I did. Made a clear, color copy of naturalization certificate, passport book and passport card. Kept one copy with brother (who is also a citizen and lives in a different city), and one more in my flash drive. When I travel overseas, I just take my passport book, passport card and...

Social Security Status Update after citizenship?

Updating SSA is very important. We just fill up the same info on SS-5 form except new citizenship status. Also, they need to look at the ORIGINAL naturalization letter. Heard some SS offices do not accept US passport as proof without Naturalization certificate.

    returning to US

During Clinton administration, the Congress gave authority to border & POE officers wide authority in questioning and deciding on each traveller, including US Citizens. That doesn't mean US citizens can be denied entry but they can be asked tough questions like any other immigrant. Refusing to...

That is not an optional thing for us to choose. Whatever info is printed on the book/card, it is mandatory from the state department.

    Q on Arizona's new law

I always encourage naturalization citizens to apply for passport CARD along with passport book. Passport card fits in a wallet. The new AZ law will take effect in 90 days from now. Unless courts strike down the law, carrying the card all the time is the best way to do it, if you are non-white...

    Question About I-485 Suppliment A Penalty $ 1000 !!!

Entering legally and marrying a US citizen doesn't automatically give legal status during the entire stay in US. Status needs to be maintained by applying for eligible status with USCIS. Approaching a lawyer is the best way to do it before filing I-130. There could be remedies in a situation...

    Updating DMV?

DMV need NOT be updated after getting citizenship. SS administration should be updated. Whenever the DL expires, go for renewal and notify them of your new citizenship status. Once you do it, some states will let you renew DL online in future. What is the point in going to DMV before DL...

Can i relocate to a New State

You are free to move anywhere, anytime without worrying about USCIS anymore. Unless you voluntarily give up citizenship, this is your home for life. You can work for as many employers as you want, work in different states on different days. You can even live in a trailer with no address. The...

    Expedited Passport Timeline

The online status is not useful. Mine still shows under processing even though I got PP book & card days back. Official processing times for expedited service is 2-3 weeks. So, there is nothing much you can do unless there is an emergency.
