I see lot of people in this forum posting about going for FP earlier than the apppointment date. What is the advantage ? Does it mean your case will be processed that much faster ?

In yesterday's mail, we received FP notice for my spouse, for an appointment on 11/9/04. No notice for me, the primary applicant. I guess this is not abnormal for USCIS, where normalcy is unusual.
