They too are in status. After we filed I-1485, my wife never extended her H-4 as the lawyer told us that she is not on AOS status and does not any visa.
We got approved last month.

As long as you *live* in the jurisdiction of the local INS, you can have your passport stamped there.
At least in San Jose, CA INS, they specifically ask for the city of residence and process cases only within the counties of jurisdiction (Santa Crux, San Mateo and Santa Clara).

1. No fee. You would need your passport or Driver\'s license along with original FP notice. Get to San Jose center about 15 mins before appointed time.
2. No fee. You would need your passport, any I-94s, EADs, Advance Paroles and original/courtesy I-485 approval notice.

Your case seems to be taking longer than expected. If I remember correctly you are EB3 other with ND 12/99.
When did you do your FP? Was it 09/200?

INS Processing times are available on numerous sites including www.murthy.com.
For India/China they are working on Sept.-Oct 99 NDs currently and for other countries ti is 12/1999 and 01/2000.
