    OCI - Washington DC Tracker

Sorry Guys! I have been a little late in posting my time line but my entire process at DC embassy was completed without any complications in 6 weeks (time frame included 2 long weekends and a major snowstorm delay across DC) :). Nov 16, 2009 Application Delivered in DC: Dec 4, 2009...

    OCI - Washington DC Tracker

It was $145 since they revised it from $25 on Sept 16. Not sure where you got the $140 from. Somebody on this board a few weeks ago had also mentioned $140 and I had corrected and responded stating it was $145.

My green card expire while waiting for decision, what to do?

Passport Expired, GC Expiring and DL expiring. Wow! For whatever reason you have really got yourself in a "close" situation. If I were you and depending upon your country I would at least start the process of expedited passport renewal and then set up an infopass per Jackolantern's suggestion. I...

    Child Born Abroad. US Citizen?

You should be good provided you have appropriate documentation. Make sure to register the child's birth at the local US consulate/embassy.

    U.S Citizen Finally!

Congrats wantmygcnow! Its high time you changed your screen name! Should have been changed to "wantmyuscnow" before the interview itself but now it should be altered to "gotmyuscnow". :D:D

Links to latest OCI rules, FAQs and other info to help prepare an OCI package

Based on the link and quote provided by akgarg it is clear that you HAVE to send the PIO card only at the later stage (along with original US passports). So there should be no debate left on "Can you send the original PIO card later?" since "You have to send the PIO card later". You were very...

    Tax transcripts

Thank you cheerus! Spiderman: That link also has the phone number (1-800-829-1040) that one can call to order via fax. Make sure to have the fax available and connected.

    Tax transcripts

I will try to find and post it later but I believe it is easily available and should also be on the transcript order form or the instructions (the regular phone number and choose the option and talk to a rep).

    Tax returns vs. transcripts

You don't need to send either one with your N-400. In rare cases (depending upon your case) these could be asked for during the interview stage (but not with application). See the other recent post on the same topic on whether you need it and what you need.

    Tax transcripts

Majority of people do not need it but for me it was a matter of making a phone call and asking them to fax it over and the entire process took under 10 minutes; so I just opted to do it (although it was not required in the end). You just need the summary one that is free (no need to pay to get a...

OCI and Savings Fund/Fixed Deposit Account in India

I saw your post after I posted my previous message. Based on your link it looks like even foreign citizens of Non-Indian origin residing in India can open regular accounts (so obviously NRI/PIO/OCI will be allowed to). I will check with my sister and get back on why she had that confusion then...

OCI and Savings Fund/Fixed Deposit Account in India

I know it because my USC sister moved to India around a year ago and she has done substantial research on bank accounts, cell phones, PAN cards, drivers license etc. I will check if she has any pointers and post if available. Apparently returning NRI's/PIO's should open an account known as RFC...

Travel to Canada with US Passport Card or Book

In my opinion one should always carry the passport book across borders irrespective of whether you have or carry the passport card or not. You never know when special/urgent situations may arise and its always smart to keep the option of flying open. A few years ago a friend (with green card)...

OCI and Savings Fund/Fixed Deposit Account in India

No! Per RBI guidelines foreign nationals (even with OCI) are not allowed to open regular bank accounts even if they relocate to India. You will have to go with the NRE/NRO accounts unless you renounce your US citizenship and take Indian citizenship.

Do we need to update Social Security before applying for passport?

Really this was a no brainer for me. It was a 10 minute affair at the local SSA office for applying to update the SSN and no sending originals around. I put in the application to update my SSN and then send in my passport application right after that. For me it was a matter of getting one more...

    Misc. OCI Application Questions

Thumb impression would make more sense in my opinion too. You can just query her part of the application and reprint it (using her Registration No. and date of birth).

    OCI - Washington DC Tracker

cpzinga: I am a little confused. Is it possible to get it Notarized without signing? I always thought Notarization meant that the Notary is certifying your sign (Doesn't Notarizing mean that the person signing the document is the person claimed in the signature?). Apparently there is...

Citizenship for minor son after parents naturalisation

Provided you can prove that your son is in your custody and living with you (assuming he is only on vacation in India) he will automatically become a citizen once he enters the US since he is already a PR. You can then apply for his passport. However if he lives separate from you then it is a...
