Relocate to india after us citizenship

Unless you are receiving SS benefits, the SSA does not keep a record of your address. They simply take what the IRS sends them. Thus, you should really update your address with the IRS. As to how the whole thing turns out after one moves to India, I have not been able to find any answers...

OCI versus 10 year Multiple Entry Visa?

Not to mention that the PIO card also costs a bit more compared to OCI! Go figure.

OCI vs. PIO Comparison - Advantages and Disadvantages

The Indian government frivolously uses the word 'Citizenship' in OCI maybe just to make NRIs feel good? Or maybe they were themselves confused when coining the term. Even some politicians/minister(s) had openly and wrongly equated OCI to dual citizenship. This leads to confusion everywhere. One...

    U-Sticker and OCI

There is no OCI 'card', per se. There is a small 4-5 page booklet of the shape of a passport which is called a 'Certificate of Registration'. It is actually a very good thing that there is something in addition to just a visa sticker. However, I wish GOI clearly specifies that the booklet is...

Getting new passport - avoid sending nat. Certificate?

Not just that, sometimes they even ruthlessly fold the Natz certificate - thereby permanently creasing it - if they don't have a large enough sized envelope. I know some people don't care, but most do including most passport agency employees.

Can one refuse to give passport away at hotel check-in?

How did you forget Pakistan and China, even bigger offenders? I assume Bangladesh does it too and I am sure there are others. Actually, India's rules are probably the most 'tolerable' of all such countries. There are far worse things done by some other countries such as mentioning of one's...

Can one refuse to give passport away at hotel check-in?

It IS beautiful here in the USA where foreigners don't have to wear their passports on their sleeves all the time... or take permission from the US government before traveling from NYC to LA! An American visa is a visa!! No 1-city or 2-city restricted visa nonsense. I hope other countries grow...

    New US Passports

You can make a color copy of anything you want and put a nice stamp that says 'COPY' on the color photocopy. You know what I am talking about. Or make the photocopy on paper that has a 'COPY' watermark on it. The word 'COPY' should immediately dismiss anyone's suspicion including that of the...

Married in India, divorced in the US

It depends. They probably want details of the person's immediate family members, readily available on hand. Not to start a war here and no offense meant, but spouse's name makes far more sense compared to having one's religion mentioned as is done on the Pakistani passport :) Take it easy.

Married in India, divorced in the US

Sure there is a 'Spouse's name' field on that page. It's right above the Address field. Check again.

    Passport Status & Delays

Yes, there is currently a 'delay' in passport processing, at least in the northeast and mid-Atlantic regions. The online status does not work either. However, if you call the agency, they seem to be very responsive and polite. That's the best way to get a status. The 1 week send-to-receive...

    Security Clearance

vik_b: I was only responding to jllag1's post. I myself don't have any pending clearance processing. While I don't know exactly what job jllag1 needs his clearance for, I have seen people get their clearances in similar situations and in a couple of cases with even more 'links' to their native...

    Security Clearance

I think you will be just fine. I know people with 'Secret' level clearance who have much, much larger gorillas. Do let us know how it turns out. Good luck.

    How to sign US Passport

Signing the way 'we sign credit cards' does not tell it 100%. Others don't know how you sign your credit cards. My name could be 'John Smith' and I can sign my credit card as 'John Smith'. The question is whether I can sign as 'J. Smith' or do I need to sign in full as 'John Smith'. Based...

    OCI - Washington DC Tracker

They use the wrong term, 'surrender'. They should simply say 'submit for cancellation'. 'Surrender' does imply giving up a document for good. That's not the case here. In this case, we get the cancelled passport back.

    Driving to Canada after GC

They may or may not ask for a passport in each direction. I have had both experiences. The safest thing to do would be to carry it.

    Travel to India

Not sure if the above explanation is entirely correct. Question: Is the U visa also issued to non-OCI people, such as foreign tourists, businesspeople, journalists, actors, students, foreign diplomats etc. etc.? If the answer to this question is 'No', then that means that the U visa is...

do you feel you're treated differently when returning to the US as a citizen?

I guess the OP's question was aimed at finding out if there is any reduction in time at the immigration counter, or reduced questioning by the officers at the Port of Entry compared to what happens when entering on a GC.

OCI Application - when should the US and Indian passports be sent ?

I'd be VERY wary of sending original US passport along with the initial OCI application. You might not be able to leave the US for a couple of months till such time as you get the US passport back. Did you look what those who have successfully gone through this process have to say about their...

Photos for OCI New York Consulate

Another example of typical Indian inconsistency and lack of professionalism. On the Indian Consulate's website: http://indiacgny.org/php/showContent.php?linkid=175&partid=100&sub=sub6 says 2 photos (i.e. 1 on each form)...
