PIO application: Money order and mailing package

1 - Single MO is fine 2 - Simply copies are fine 3 - I used USPS (cheaper AND dependable - no matter what the OCI papers say) and tracked. For return, I used a pre-paid package from USPS - the flat rate envelop and that worked flawlessly too. See my tips posted in this segment. Good luck!

PIO then OCI - Is this the best route?

I sent in my OCI8 packet on September 5. I had the OCI in my hand on October 17. It did not take 4-6 months. Of course, YMMV.

    OCI Tips

Undoubtedly one of the worst - if not the very worst - forms I have had the displeasure of filling out was the darned OCI form. Seemingly created by imbeciles who dropped out (or were kicked out) of the 8th grade, this artifact is repetitive, often contradictory, and seldom clear. But I guess...

    Secondary evidence

Done! Well friends, it worked out! The letter from DOS provided a few acceptable things that could be used as secondary evidence and upon production of one or more (I provided 4), it was accepted: - GC which states the child's DOB (must be valid!) - Health insurance records that go back to the...

    Secondary evidence

As a naturalized parent of a kid born in India, I applied for the kid's US passport. The birth certificate that was submitted contained the name of the parents, the address and the date, but as it is common in India, no name of the child. Now the passport office wants secondary evidence that the...

Driving tkts older than 3 years?

This is how I did it .. Ticket 1 .. 9 years old .. $70 Ticket 2 .. 5 years old .. $125 I stated that I was cited twice due to traffic violation in my application and even mentioned the fine amounts hoping that they would not ask for further proof. They did. I got a yellow letter with...

    N-400 Application questions - Confused

Couple of thoughts on this .. I can traddress the first 2 questions .. 1. Mention the facts. USCIS would send you a "yellow letter" asking for details to be brought along at the time of the interview. This is when you would need to produce the documents to the officer. These would be...

Steps to citizenship, with a foreign-born child

JoL - thanks for your helpful response. Are you pursuing a career in law, or is this purely altruistic? Either way, I am thankful for your response. Please see a couple comments below .. >> N-600 fees are $600 - a lot of burritos - but would certainly keep this in mind for future. Thanks...

Steps to citizenship, with a foreign-born child

Yes, the daughter has been with me. She has a GC.She has been out of the country twice in the last 5 years - once for 35 days and once for 5 days. Are you saying N-600 would be helpful to establish the bonafides if the daughter were overseas? I guess so. Thanks.

Steps to citizenship, with a foreign-born child

Fellow travelers, I am applying for US Citizenship and wonder if my steps are correct, specially because of my India-born daughter, who just turned 16: 1. Parents applying using N-400 form 2. Parents go through the procedure, culminating in an oath ceremony, and obtain US passports 3...

    GC Renewal upon turning 14

... and I see lots of similar cases Thanks, JoL - I see the same signs elsewhere too. I was going to re-apply, this time with 2 checks, one for the fee and one for the biometrics, with a plainly written request to accept one or both the checks and process the I-90. Essentially - PLEASE take the...

    GC Renewal upon turning 14

My kid turned 14. I applied via I-90 for a renewal of her GC. The GC expiration date is more than 2 years away and when she turns 16, the expiration date would still not have arrived. USCIS site says "apply within 30 days of turning 14" and there are no fees associated with this renewal in...

Defences against reimbursment of green card process fees with Employer

2 more possibilities - - - Take heart - it may not come to the old company pursuing you. You will be afraid for a few months, but they may decide not to go after you because that means money to be spent upfront for them. Secondly, assume they hit you with 10K (made up figure). You can...

    Dollar slide accelerates

You can do it - we can help ;-) --> I have used Fidelity to buy Australia Fund, but this was when I was in Europe. Don't know if you can do that directly from here, but there are lots of Mutual Funds that you can invest in that address international markets and you can see the constitution...

OT:Ethics on having offers from 2 employers

Ethics? Professional? Probably not. But you know what is good for you. Just don't burn too many bridges. What happens if 2 weeks into A you find out that B would have been a better choice? Reminds me of a story where a girl is torn between two men - one she adores and one that adores her...

Off Topic: Silicon Valley IT jobs, is it true?

East coast has similar things too .. I made the jump in '98, just around the time when the boom was on, to a firm on the Wall Street. Salary hike was 50%. Saturdays I was once "caught" in the office, working with my boss and a colleague, by my wife .. at 9 PM. Yes, Saturday. Yes, 9 PM. I lasted...

Rational Discussion: Going back to one's home country

What is the frequency, Kenneth? For all of us who want to debate staying back / going back .. let me just say that our actions speak louder than our thoughts. One size does not fit all - Are you married? Do you have kids? Does your spouse work? Is your family (or extended family) here...
