Check this out. Asylum Adjustment for FY 2002

Update on Jack\'s Case Hi fellows,  On 06/02/2002 I received a letter from the local district office stating that my I-485 case has been transferred to NSC, and that future inquiries regarding this case should be made directly with the NSC. I don\'t know it\'s a bad thing or a good...

Talked to IIO at Nebraska, said that I485 cases are on hold.

No Title It\'s very unlikely that the INS will restrict Visa/GC to a particular ethnic group or nationality. However, they can put quota/limitations on different visa types depending on US employment situation, and other demographic statistical analyses etc.

    Terrorist Attacks and Immigration Laws

Dear Mr.Khana and other Immigration Law Professionals,   Can you please share your thoughts and views on how the recent terrorist attacks in NYC can have impact on the future immigration laws? Some politicians are already calling for more thorough background checks for student visa...

    i need help please

No Title I wish I had read your post earlier. There was something call the LIFE Act which allows some illegal immigrants (read the details of the LIFE Act at http://www.ins.usdoj.gov to see if you qualify) to become legal residents.  If you cannot find a way to legalize your status you...

JackArcherNew: check this out, it might be of interest for you

No Title Annv,  It\'s normal not to be contacted by the INS before the 45months processing time. And only 2% of the asylee applicants get called for the interview. You should get a finger print notice after 45months though.   I think the current priority date is January 1998.

Any gay person from Singapore granted asylum in USA?

No Title Gilbert is right. This is a grey area. If you can find well documented cases (reported by CNN, AIUSA, UN, etc) of gay people in Singapore being persecuted because of their sexual orientation you can apply for asylum. But applying will not guarantee you an automatic approval. I think...

INS work style - life irony

No Title Don\'t expect to see any immediate results even if these so called "reforms" take place. The real bottle-neck in the asylee I485 processing is the annual quota that has not changed accordingly with the ever increasing number of asylees in the US.  I give some credit to...

INS work style - life irony

No Title Yeah, too bad all those people can\'t vote (no pun intended), atleast not yet. We have seen in the past that some of these Congressmen/women tried to introduce Bills, but they were all ignored or put aside.

INS work style - life irony

No Title It\'s not up to the INS to decide if the conditions in a country has imporved. State Department determines that. And for a lot of political reasons the State Department does not easily declare a country safe. Look at Afghanistan for example. All my Afghan asylee friends still have...

INS work style - life irony

No Title INS screw up is pretty obvious. They recently mailed visa approval letters for the 9/11 hijackers to their flight school. I don\'t think the Congress need any better prove than that.

    He just vanished

No Title The situation as it is being right now we are all too powerless to do anything other than just sit back and wait.   I once tried the Freedom of Information Act approach. They will send you a bunch of files to fill out. And it will takes months for them to respond after...

    Got My Passport stamped today!!!!

No Title Hi Alanpero,  I forgot to mention that Otoka filed his I-485 in April 1997 and I filed mine in September 1997. 5 months time gap can mean tens of thousands of applications in between. I\'ll check with the INS if I don\'t hear anything from them by June-July. Last time I went...
