for Asylee22 The instruction doesn’t say that you have to be here continuously for an entire year. It says that you have to be physically present in the United States in asylee status for at least a total of one year prior to filing the Form I-485. So - take way the time you been absent and...

Got my SS card yesterday! Yesterday my new, unrestricted, SS card came in a mail. It took them one full month to issue it. I applied on September 25, called back SS office with an inquiry on October 18. On October 19 they finally send me a receipt saying I’ll get my card in two weeks. I...

    RTD issue

Some people on this board expressed an idea to go ahead and apply for the GC trough an employer or a spouse. And I am thinking - what if a person – asylee, really gets his GC through another source, then what document he or she will use to travel? The refugee travel document is issued only...

EAD now valids for 5 years

Mine EAD also expires in June 2005. I won’t renew it this time. I have a I-94 with the stamp “Asylum granted. Employment authorized” and it is enough proof that I can work legally. I think those new, 5 years EAD’s, work best for new asylees, who are looking for a job, and for people who...

Pending Asylum - Need experts advice please..

My story My husband applied for an asylum in 1992, got an interview and the approval in 1998, SIX YEARS LATER. I, just like your friends wife, stayed in a home country with a kid. Waited for almost two years, and then came over in 1994 on a visitor’s visa. I decided to stayed here after...

What if i had to visit home country?

Travel back home could be risky 1) Call your Home country embassy and ask if they will stamp you a visa in RTD. Some countries over there (Russia, Nepal for example) won’t put any visas in RTD. 2) Yes, you can go home on your expired passport. Or – they might issue you a “certificate to...
