someone mentioned if one give up the PR, he has to wait 5 yrs to reapply for canada PR. is this true? could not find it anywhere in the CIC website.
anyone knows?
thank
It depends...
whether you are from the terroist country, whether you apply visa or not in canada, whether you plan to travle by air/road, whether you have immigration petition filed etc..
this is a not easy yes/no question.
you might be fine to come back with the 30 dyas rule without the...
So if I were to use AP to travel to Canada what must I be aware of?
if you were out of status before, you cannot travel on AP.
Should I be turning in my I-94 (old, attached to the passport) and the new one that is part of my H1B ( 7th year)?
my suggestion is NO. especially if you...
why is that?
is your 7th extension same I-94 number as your old I-94, if so, you should be good for the automatic revalidation rule provided you don't apply visa at canada and you are not from one of the countries list by DOS.
you can NOT turn in any I-94 when you leave US/enter Canada...
From the reading, I guess people try to use 30 days rule, but not understand it.
1. You can NOT turn in your I94 card, even you keep the one on your I797. you have to keep all the I94 card.
2. You are supposed to live in US and the trip to canada is short . not vice versa.
I know...
Thanks!
there is a post saying one guy didn't get the PR card without the second ID

then i am thinking to exchange my DL.
correct me if i am wrong. but if you are SR, you could NOT return to states just by valid I94 and expired visa.
the revised regulation exclude certain country people from using the visa automatic revalidation..
please make sure..
Here is the link for the full regulation. I guess whoever want to use the 30 day rule should print it out with you in case you need it at POE.

they said that on my letter :
You must bring the following with you to obtain your
card:
¡¤ This letter,
¡¤ Your original Immigration or Record of Landing
Paper,
¡¤ The original Passport or Travel document that you
submitted with your application,
¡¤ Another official identify card...
thanks
i had my US DL for more than 2 yrs.
So you could walk out with the canada DL less than an hour? or you just finish the paper work and they mail you the DL later on?
the problem is i have to get a second ID for the PR pick up, then i need it quick.
thanks again
mine PR pick up letter ask for a second ID.
i don't have a canada driver license. but checking on their web site, one should be able to exchange US DL to the canada DL, does anyone has such experience? to share ? how long does it take and any thing need to causious?
thanks
I am a little confused. on one hand, there is automatic visa revalidation for less than 30 days trip from us to canada(exclude apply for visa, or from the list contries)
on the other hand, landed immigrant is required to have nonimmigrant visa to enter US.
did anyone go to canada lately...
