Well, how are you working then? Just because you are applying for a green card doesn't mean you are not authorized to work. You could still be in some unexpired nonimmigrant status that allows you to work, or you could have gotten the EAD from pending AOS that allows you to work. So I assumed that that was the case. If you are not authorized to work, you won't be able to fill out the I-9 form you need to fill out when you start work if you work as an employee. Unauthorized work does not bar AOS in your category, but that doesn't mean it's "okay" to do it.
