Undergoing Green Card Process, USCIS Agents Visited Work?

Right now, my family is undergoing the green card process based on employment adjustment (I-485, c(9)) with my mom. Today, some agents visited my parents and interviewed them separately. They also visited her sponsor. How common is this? What does this mean for our application? My parents gave similar answers but my dad messed up on one question and forgot how much she was paid (he was off by around $300). They also asked her for a payment check but she didn't have one on hand. Now they're worried that some of the incongruities in their answers are going to mess up our application. Does anyone have experience with this?

Not common. Could be random, or perhaps something suspicious.

USCIS has stepped up scrutiny of employment based applications in general, and in some cases due to suspicion of fraud or misrepresentation.

agree with @1AurCitizen If the application is "messed up" it won't be because they gave different answers, it will be because something in the process is wrong.
