If she is on H1 and is employed , she can support herself ..If her salary is almost same as yours ..nothing will happen ..
You can file for divorce and most likely you dont have to pay maintenance etc..
If she is still on H4 , she can ask for maintenance but she will have to leave the...

I think Rajesh2008 concern is a good point to be considered in worst case scenario.
When u are on a permanent job and if you dont get your EAD renewed for some reason , then you have an issue. Also if for some reason your 485 is denied then you are out of status.

yes, you should be able to transfer your h1 irrespective of how many years you are on H1 . You can use ur EAD to join another company (485 more than 180 days) or use ur H1 to transfer and ask the new company to continue your GC processing based on AC 21 .
H1 extn is better as a safety net . As for your wife : If she wants to work , she needs the EAD or she needs her own H1 , so her H4 status is no longer valid ( thats my understanding :rolleyes:
Either you are on H1/H4 status or EAD . You cant be both.
