What ginnu said is correct. there is no rule like that. But if employer decides to cancel or revoke your I-140 there is nothing you can do. you are safe if I-140 is already approved and 6 months passed after filing I-485.
you dont need GC for getting SSN. If you have EAD then you can apply for SSN. But EAD card is required to apply for SSN. My wife recently got SSN using EAD.

my prediction is it will move 1 month. ie 01-may-2002. I do not see any improvement as there is talk in various websites that uscis will further retrogress EB2 and all other categories worldwide :rolleyes:
