You should apply for a replacement. That is normal practice. You never know how authorities may react to a damaged passport. YOu can apply for a replacement at your nearest Indian consulate.
You can actually submit a Customer Service request to request an update to your priority date on your I140. Normally USCIS responds quickly and once the PD gets fixed, then you should re-apply.

Its interesting that they should state that. 201(b) merely indicates aliens that are not subject to general numerical restrictions based on country quotas. Are you under a NIW category or an assylee?
Since you have an approved I 140, you can file I485 on your own. No input from the company required for that. HOwever, you need to be working with them for 6 months after receipt of teh I485 application, before you can switch employers.
