I am an italian engineer withn a PhD degree. I was visiting researcher on a J-1 visa in 2005 at Purdue Univ. Now I am back to Italy.
I remained in contact with an american corporation and now they want to hire me. However H1-B quotas have expired.
After talking with legals, they told me that, since I am still in contact with the same Purdue University, the solution would be to ask a J visa with a F-1 option. So I could work for the company obtaining a visa through the University.
I did not really understand how this work. I am quite expert about J-1, but I do not know what the F-1 option is and how it should b required.
Does the visa request work as the simple J-1, or there is any difference for this F1 option?
Thanks
