I am an Indian, currently in the final year of a medical residency program in the US on a J1 visa. I hope to get married to my girlfriend in December 2016. She is a US Citizen. I have signed a contract for a one year fellowship program (2017-2018) and will need to apply for a new J1 visa for fellowship soon after marriage in May 2017.
My concern is: will I be granted a J1 visa if I am married to a US Citizen? I do not want to do a waiver job/ go back to home country before my fellowship is complete. My plan was to complete fellowship which will complete 5 years of study in USA (7 years are allowed) and then return to India for atleast two years with my wife.
