Will a minor greencard violation cause problems at U.S. airport?

A finnish friend of mine was an exchange student in Canada 10 years ago. The people she was staying with took her on a weekend trip to the U.S. They went through the customs checkpoint when they entered the U.S.A. from Canada. When they were returning to Canada they drove through the Canadian re-entry lane and did not stop at customs(all the other people in the car were Canadians). It was not until she was leaving Canada to return to Finland and had a flight transfer in Boston that she found out she had violated her greencard. The customs officer at the Boston airport was yelling at her asking why she still had a American greencard in her passport that had not been removed and was expired for six months or so. She explained what had happened and he simply removed the greencard from her passport and she continued home to Finland.
My Question Is:
Will this cause problems at an American airport? We are actually flying to Canada, but the flight has a transfer in Minneapolis on the way to Canada. The flight back has a transfer in Detroit.
Thank you in advance for the help.
