I\'m on h1b now, i\'m marrying a US citizen in this month end (July 27th), i got laid off now and my employer said he will hold my visa until this month end, should i apply for a new H1-b through a new employer or i dont have to, please help me, kind of screwed up at this moment, any kind of information is welcome.

If you can, get married to a US citizen WHILE YOU ARE STILL LEGAL and file all the necessary paperwork immediately you get your certificate (get licence from a county that gives immediate response, we drove 600 miles to get ours but still married locally).

It will take a month or three (or maybe a couple more, who knows with the INS) before you get a work permit, but after that it is plane sailing and you will no longer need your employer\'s assistance.

Obviously, if you have other valid paperwork, you may be able to work anyway - I don\'t know details on that.
