Where to go after L1-L2 approval?

We are currently filing for an extension of our L-1/L-2 visa (Dutch citizens, living in US). We were told that we actually need to go outside the US to have our passports updated with the new visa.
Is that correct?
 
Visas stampings are not performed in the US. If it has been previously stamped in your home country, you can visit Canada or Mexico for stamping. You need stamping only if you plan to travel outside the US as long as your new approval came with an I-94.
