I just decide to post this because Nigeria has been on the list of non-eligibility countries for so long. When is Nigeria likely to be eligible.thanks

It's not "so long", it's just a few years. Eligibility is determined by the number of (non DV) immigrants to the US. If
Nigerian immigration slows to less than 50k over 5 years then it will become eligible again.

How will one know if Nigeria has not sent up to 50k since the time we became ineligible?

Based on DHS data (latest available year 2015) 11, 542 folks born in Nigeria obtained Lawful Permanent Resident Status during Fiscal Year 2015, predominantly through immediate relatives of US citizens and other family-sponsored preferences:

Class of Admission:
Family-sponsored preferences 1,702
Employment-based preferences 861
Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens 8,279
Diversity 519
Refugees and Asylees 144
Other 37

It is presumably unlikely that numbers have decreased noticeably during subsequent years and therefore equally unlikely that folks born in Nigeria will become DV eligible again any time soon.
