When should I apply for L1 VISA

Hi,
I'm a canadian working for a US company, and I will transfer to US on Jan 7th. My company is preparing the Blanket L1-B VISA for me. Once the package is ready, I will drive to a US port of entry to apply for my VISA. Can I go to the custom before Jan 7th? I will need to have my VISA before I can start moving.

You can. I've done this before. The thing you can't do is return to Canada on the same trip. They would want you to go to your end destination. I did this before for the same reason so the shipping company would have my petition to show the boarder guards. Luckily the person was nice and let me return to Canada with a bit of a scolding. I would advise if you're doing it to go to your end destination before you return to Canada.
