When you apply for your EAD and they don't approve it within 90 days of the receive date you can go to your local office and get an interim EAD. This will allow you to work until your approval goes through.
If the USCIS does not approve or deny the EAD application within 90 days (within 30 days for an asylum applicant), the applicant may request an interim EAD. The alien applicant must go to the local USCIS district office and bring proof of identity and any documents that the USCIS has sent the applicant in regards to the employment authorization application.
