TN Visa given only for a year.

The border officer said my passport expires in a year so on the i-94 (the white sheet in the passport), it says it expires next march. Is this my TN Visa expiring or just that i-94 card? Here is how it looks: i.imgur.com/aLnNmN8.jpg

Your TN status is your I-94 card.
The officer acted correctly. Issuing I-94's match passport expiry has been CBP procedure for several years now. When you renew your passport, you will have to go back to the border and get a new I-94 with the remainder of your TN eligibility, which they have on file. This will not be considered a new petition.
But, without doing anything, you are only in valid TN status until next March.

So can I just get my passport renewed, take it to the border, and get the "proper" time for my TN visa?
